The woman who united Sweden, Denmark and Norway

Margaret 1 of Denmark (1353-1412) was a Danish queen who founded the Kalmar Union in 1397. It was the union of 3 independent states with a common ruler.

At it’s peak it was one of the largest empires in the World (mostly due to including Greenland) with roughly the size of modern day India. It lasted until 1523.  Apart from being a very smart ruler Margaret was a woman of strong Christian faith.  She requested that prayers are said for her after she is dead. So nowadays Margaret is still remembered, since a bell is rung as commemoration of the Queen every single day.
