The epic Battle of Cape Ecnomus

A contender for the largest naval battle of all time took place off the coast of Sicily, Italy in 256bc. Carthage was one of Rome’s toughest adversaries in regards to control of the Mediterreanean sea.

The first woman circumnavigator

Jeanne Baret (1740-1807) was a French housekeeper who became the first known woman to circumnavigate the World. While working as the housekeeper of naturalist Philibert Commerson, she became more involved with him and they started an affair.

Columbus plays God and saves his crew

In 1503, Christopher Columbus (ca. 1451-1506) and his crew had to abandon ship in North Jamaica and were stuck there for a year. The natives quickly started to dislike the foreigners, most likely due to their terrible behavior (stealing supplies, raping and even killing natives).
