The sex-crazed Pope

Pope John XII (c.930-964) became pope in 955 through the help of his father, Alberic II of Spoleto. At a very young age, John XII was not exactly up to par with his holy job. His worldly desires got the better of him.

He is said to have turned the Lateran Palace into a brothel and to have sex with anyone he wanted to, including his own niece and his father’s concubine. During those days, a pope had more power than most kings. John XII made use of it and got rid of many enemies by either killing or castrating them. In 964 he got killed by an angry husband while having sex with the man’s wife.
