Made to last: 1000 year old granite temple

The majestic Brihadeeswarar Temple located in Thanjavur is the biggest temple of its kind. The tower is 216ft/66 meters and is still an impressive sight to see even for todays standards.

The temple has been built by emperor Raja Raja Chola I in 1010 AD. The very heavy but extremely tough granite rocks, out of which the whole structure is built, have been brought to the site from at least 37 miles/60km away.
