Boston, Oregon

How are cities named? Well, for Portland, Oregon, the name came down a coin flip in 1843.

While trying to name the city, Portland was suggested by Francis Pettygrove. The other was Boston, as Asa Lovejoy, a man from Boston, Massachusetts, owned a large part of the original Portland area. The name was selected in a best 2 out of three 3 competition.
