Black Confederate soldiers

One of the reasons the American Civil War started was to end slavery of African-Americans. The Union (North) was against slavery and the Confederates (South) were pro-slavery because their main businesses were depending on it.

Unbeknown to many, there were actually black soldiers fighting FOR the Confederates. This mostly happened out of desperation once the Confederates were losing badly. How many and how motivated those black troops fought is still very much in dispute.
